Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the marinara sauce and let simmer for a few minutes.
  • In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Layering

  • In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.
  • Layer half of the ravioli over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, and then half of the remaining meat sauce.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining ravioli, ricotta, and meat sauce.
  • Top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve.

Notes

For preparation flexibility, you can use store-bought ingredients or take a slower homemade approach. This dish pairs well with a simple mixed salad and a glass of red wine.
