  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped Dried cherries or cranberries can be used for a twist.
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beating until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing about two inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges turn golden.
  2. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

Notes

These cookies can be enjoyed warm or stored in an airtight container for up to a week. Freezing portions of dough is recommended for future baking.
