Ingredients
  

For the Fry Bread

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water

For the Taco Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Toppings

  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 head lettuce, shredded
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • Sour cream and salsa for serving

Instructions
 

Prepare the Fry Bread Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Gradually Add Water

  • Gradually add 1 cup of warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough

  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for several minutes to develop the gluten.

Let the Dough Rest

  • Let the dough rest for 20 minutes.

Divide and Roll Dough Portions

  • Once rested, divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each into a thin circle, approximately 1/4-inch thick.

Heat the Oil

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F.

Fry the Dough Circles

  • Carefully fry each dough circle until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.

Drain Excess Oil

  • Drain the fry bread on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Prepare the Taco Filling

  • Brown 1 pound of ground beef with 1 diced onion and 2 minced cloves of garlic in a separate skillet.

Add Taco Seasoning

  • Once the beef is browned, add the packet of taco seasoning and stir well.

Assemble the Tacos

  • Spread a layer of refried beans on each fry bread.
  • Top with seasoned ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, and diced tomatoes.
  • Finish with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of salsa.
