Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (or 160°C for fan ovens) and prepare 12 cupcake cases in a muffin tray.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Gradually add in the self-raising flour, cocoa powder, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat the mixture until it’s thick and well combined.
  • Carefully divide the batter among the prepared cupcake cases, filling each one about two-thirds full.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-22 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  • Once baked, allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack.

Making the Buttercream

  • To prepare the buttercream, beat the room temperature butter until creamy and smooth.
  • Gradually add the icing sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until the buttercream is smooth and fluffy.
  • Stir in the green food coloring until the desired shade of green is achieved.

Decorating

  • Pipe the green buttercream on each cupcake, shaping it to resemble a Christmas tree.
