For the Dry Rub

  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Add more for extra spice

For the Ribs

  • 2 racks baby back ribs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite BBQ sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create the dry rub.
  • Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Rub the dry rub all over the ribs, ensuring they are well coated with the spices.
  • Place the ribs on a baking sheet and cover tightly with foil.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 150 to 180 minutes (2.5 to 3 hours) until the ribs are tender and the meat is pulling away from the bones.

Grilling

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Once the ribs are done baking, remove them from the oven and discard the foil.
  • Brush the ribs with BBQ sauce and grill for about 5-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the sauce becomes beautifully caramelized.
  • Serve hot with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

For added depth of flavor, let the dry rub sit on the ribs for at least an hour (or even overnight) before cooking. If you like your ribs a bit spicier, increase the cayenne pepper in the rub or add a dash of your favorite hot sauce to the BBQ sauce. Experiment with different types of BBQ sauces for unique flavors.
