Preparation

  • Peel the ginger root and slice it thinly to maximize flavor extraction.
  • Fill a large pot with 1 liter of filtered water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.
  • Once the water reaches a full boil, add the thinly sliced ginger. Immediately reduce the heat to low.
  • Let the ginger infuse into the water for 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  • Squeeze the fresh lemon juice directly into the ginger-infused water.
  • Stir gently to combine the flavors.
  • Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain the ginger slices from the liquid.
  • Transfer the ginger lemon water to a clean pitcher or bottle for storage.

Notes

Serve in tall, clear glasses garnished with lemon or mint. Can be enjoyed warm or cold. Alternative ingredients include cucumber or mint for added flavor.
